Power Play Chronicles — Frequently Asked Questions

Power Play Chronicles is a free, browser-based presidential primary campaign simulator. You run a real campaign — managing money, debates, state targeting, and a team of advisors who don't always agree with each other. Here are the questions people ask most.

Is it free?

Yes. You can play full primary campaigns for free, right in your browser. Two leaders — Barack Obama and Donald Trump — are unlocked from the start, so there's nothing to buy before you can play. More leaders and eras can be unlocked, but the core game costs nothing.

Do I need to download anything?

No. There's no app to install and no account required to start. The whole game runs in your browser on a laptop, desktop, tablet, or phone. Click play and you're in.

What years can I play?

You can run campaigns across presidential election years from 2000 to 2028. Each year has its own field of candidates, issues, and strategic pressures, so a run in 2008 feels very different from one in 2024.

Who can I play as?

On the Democratic side you can play as Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, Gavin Newsom, Pete Buttigieg, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Bill Clinton, or FDR. On the Republican side you can play as Donald Trump, George W. Bush, Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon, Ron DeSantis, Marco Rubio, or JD Vance. Each leader brings different strengths to the states they're contesting.

What do I actually do in the game?

You're running a primary against a single rival. You decide where to spend a finite budget, which states to fight for, how to handle debates, and which of your advisors to trust when their recommendations conflict. Win enough delegates and you take the nomination. The primary is a head-to-head race — it's you versus your opponent.

Is it like Campaign Trail or Twilight Struggle?

If you enjoy those, you'll likely enjoy this. Power Play Chronicles sits in the same family of political strategy games but focuses on the primary — the money, momentum, and advisor decisions that decide a nomination — and it runs free in the browser with no setup.
